Your project dimensions

Your material estimate

Rounded bag and container counts cover your entered quantities. Currency selection formats your price; it does not convert exchange rates. Costs exclude delivery and taxes.

How the estimate works

Volume = length × width × depth. Add your ordering allowance, divide by the bag volume and round up. One cubic yard contains 27 cubic feet.

Worked example

A 10 × 10 ft bed covered 3 in deep needs 25 cubic feet before allowance. That is about 0.93 cubic yards or 13 bags of 2 cubic feet.

Before you order

  • Use the area you will cover, excluding paths and large unmulched patches.
  • Check suitable mulch depth for your plants and material. This calculator estimates quantity, not horticultural suitability.
  • Bulk quantities are volume estimates. Supplier coverage and settling can differ.

Common questions

Can I compare bags with bulk delivery?

The results include both bag counts and cubic yards. Compare these quantities against your supplier’s quote and delivery charge.

Does the bag count include allowance?

Yes. The base volume and ordering volume are shown separately.
